Shop drawings the factory can build from.
JD Drafting is a contract drafting practice working with precast manufacturers, builders and engineers across Melbourne. Send the architectural and structural set — get back panel drawings, marking plans and fabrication files ready for the casting bed.
What comes back to you
One drafter start to finish, so the panel drawings, the marking plan and the fabrication files all agree with each other.
Precast panel shop drawings
Every panel drawn and dimensioned for the casting bed — reinforcement, lifting anchors, ferrules, cast-in items, edge profiles and finishes, with a panel schedule that matches the drawings.
Marking plans
A plan of each level with every panel marked and located, so the crew on site knows which panel goes where and in what order it lands.
Elevations, 2D and 3D
External and internal elevations set out panel by panel, plus 3D views for the junctions and returns that flat drawings can't settle on their own.
DXF files for fabrication
Clean DXF geometry taken straight off the shop drawings and cut back to what the plotter, the table and the CNC actually need to read.
PXML files for panel mesh
Reinforcement mesh exported as PXML so the mesh welding line and the pallet circulation system can run the panel without anyone redrawing it in the factory.
3D BIM models
A modelled version of the precast package for coordination and clash checking against the architectural, structural and services models.
Drawn in what your job already runs on
Files arrive in the format your factory, your engineer and your model coordinator are each expecting.
AutoCAD
The industry standard for 2D drafting. Production drawings and DXF output in native DWG, so files open on any desk without translation.
Revit
BIM authoring for the 3D side of the package — modelling the precast and coordinating it against the consultants' models.
Tekla Structures
The benchmark for precast detailing. Panels modelled once, with drawings, schedules and fabrication data out of the same model.
AviCAD
DWG-native CAD with architectural tools built in. Quick for turning out shop drawings and clean DXF for the factory.
PlanSwift
On-screen takeoff and estimating. Panel counts, areas and quantities measured off the drawings, not re-keyed by hand.
Jerry D
Jerry has been drafting in Melbourne since 2004 and has run JD Drafting since December 2011. Before that he spent close to seven years as senior draftsperson inside a precast manufacturer.
That is the difference worth knowing about: the drawings account for how a panel actually gets cast, stripped, lifted and stood, not only how it reads on the sheet. Panel drawings, marking plans, mesh files and the model that ties them together are all produced at the one desk, so a revision to a panel shows up correctly on the marking plan and in the fabrication files at the same time.
It stays a one-person practice on purpose. You brief the person who draws the job and keep the same number for the whole project. Work is taken on contract — by the package for precast manufacturers and builders, or as overflow capacity for drafting teams that are between deadlines.

Send the set, get a price
Call and talk the job through, then send the architectural and structural set. You'll get a scope and a price back before any drawing starts.
